Field Photo of My Sable Antelope
« on: August 03, 2011, 05:27:32 AM »
It was an easy shot but I about killed myself the day before, marching up and down rocky hillsides, trying to figure out where they were.  The animals had not been seen in that part of Zimbabwe for many years, but PH brought a few down to establish a herd for his conservancy.  This is no doubt the last one to be lawfully hunted, as the "war vets", who call themselves comrades, put wire snares everywhere.  Some probably bugged out, as they are very picky about their habitat.  I was supposed to get a leopard on this trip and they had been hitting baits, but once the comrades overran the place, they never hit another one.  It looked like the comrades hit a few.

us92, that's a pretty animal.  I've done a lot of reading on hunting in africa but unfortunately never got to go.  I also liked your warthog.  I'd like a warthog head on the wall.

Thanks, I sold a lot of my guns to do it but I'm still glad I did.  If you check around you can get a pretty good deal on Namibia or South Africa.  I'm not sure if I would go to Zim today unless I had an in.  It's something you will never forget, to walk all day and never see trash or hear an airplane, and the game is just incredible.  Like somebody said - GO there, DO that, WHILE you can.

can't go, disabled,  I rely on folks that can still do it.  I'm at the point where I get just as much enjoyment out of other peoples hunts.  I would imagine that it's quite a thrill to see that variety of game.
