You have made direct reference to that which I alluded to.

(I hope Richard the Artist takes the hint; if not him one of the others that are similarly skilled.)

I have a source where we can get the medals made, once we have a design. But they ain't cheap.

Charles Topping in California can make these. I don't have an address. He makes them for Fandango and made them for GESOP for many years :) Cast Bronze pins

Getting them made isn't the problem, getting them designed is the  problem.
Any Idea how to get in contact with Topping..What is Fandango and GESOP?

You do remember that anything with GBO on it has to have our approval in advance, right?

Greybeard's cover's a lot of territory..... could you suggest a couple of themes?

The range is where we used to have a couple of shoots a year and these
pictures were taken probably about  10 years before I became involved
with BP cannons/mortars.

For clarity the design needs to be simple and bold.

Too much detail and it is not easily recongized nor understood.

Crossed cannons comes to mind - a typical beginning for such, but not the only option.

We have dealt with cannons, howitzers, mortars, hand-gonnes, line-throwing guns, thundermugs and more.

We do  have the skills here to actually make one that FIRES a micro-cannon ball.

I say forget GBO all together ! This is us and we can have any darned crest we agree on . There won't be any GBO recognition .

I wouldn't link it to this site at all if it is an issue or not .

It's a bunch of guys that show up every so often in Montana or here or there to shoot cannons  . We only talk about these shoots on the board .

You want to make a cannon medalion ? I'm in ,and I'll make an entery ,but I won't be constrained by GBO as I dont see this cannon shooting as having much to do with GBO other than members talking about it online. In fact my entery won't even mention GBO on it .

God knows having to look at every form of advertizzzing  :-[  known to man      ... YET invented ought give all the the right needed to talk about something that has NOTHING to do with GBO .

It is almost like walking down an impulse buying asile ,buy this ,buy that , no ,... wait no ,buy this other damn thing , you really need it ! christ give it a rest already .

Actually Gary as Tim originally suggested GBO would be  part of crest and Graybeard would have to give final approval for that. I don't have the least concern about Graybeard approving whatever we come up with...you see before it gets to  Graybeard it has to get by  Tim and  I.

As far as a crest or medallion representing the  Montana shoot,  That is my shoot.  It is sponsored by  the  Cut  Bank Sportsman Association.  No reference is made in any of club promotional material about GBO.   Any medallion or crest for that shoot would not have to be approved by  GBO-Graybeard, because it would not be part of this board or promote this board. It would only be available off this board

Even though we don't get formal sponsorship from GBO for the two shoots we do, and we don't formally promote GBO at the shoots, they are still  functions that largely exist because of GBO.  That I haven't lost sight of.

On the other hand GBO benefits immensely from the two shoots we put on.  I send out press releases to newspapers and flyers to gunshops in a 200 mile area announcing the shoot and that brings in folks who are not part of our GBO group to my shoot and I tell them about our meeting place at GBO.

It's good for all of us.

I agree with Gary that it shouldn't need to promote GBO, though I also agree that I don't have a problem promoting GBO, since I spend a lot of time here, and have found it one of the most rewarding forums I visit.  Anyone wishing to enter a design should design it as they choose (with or without reference to GBO), and should only change their design to add or adjust any part of it if they personally are ok with the changes anyone else might suggest.

If the final chosen design (should there be one) is acceptable to the expert wax maker, and he so chooses to make the positive and the molds, than he should be compensated out of the cost for his time and materials.

Ultimately, there will be a few people that will be critical components of this project's success - and they must all agree to it as it plays out, or it will fail - board mods/admins, wax/mold maker, and caster.  The caster usually doesn't care about the design too much, but having the board leadership and the mold maker agree on the design is essential.

This can be a challenge coin, a medal, a pin, a hat badge, just about anything.

It can be with our without GBO.  All designs with GBO must approved by Graybeard before we decide on our final choice.

Anyone can submit art work.

We do not have to have  lost wax medallion. A standard spincast plated medallion could also be made.

If done as a challange coin I think we could do one that relates to GBO cannons and perhaps the
flip side Saint Barbara the patren saint of Artillerymen..... just a thought.....
