50 Cal. Huntsman and TruGlo Red Dot
« on: July 24, 2011, 04:52:04 PM »
Hi All,

I have decided I want a scout scope setup on my 50 Cal. Huntsman.  It already has a low comb stock so just needed a rail & a scope.  I modified a Weaver #410 scope rail & mounted it using the rear sight screw holes.  I then mounted a like new Truglo Red Dot scope.  I have not yet fired the gun with this set up.  I would like to know if anyone has used a Truglo Red Dot on a Huntsman or similiar MZ and did it hold up for you?  I understand the accuracy limitations of the red dot but this is going to be a less than 100 yard woods gun.

thanks

BB

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?

UPDATE - 50 Cal. Huntsman and TruGlo Red Dot

Well the Truglo Red Dot did fine on it's first trip to the range this morning.  Had it on paper @ 100 yards by the third shot.  Let the gun cool and fired a semi-rested four shot group @ 100 yards using 460 grain NoExcuses conicals over a wonder wad and (2) 50 grain 777 pellets.  The group was 4 inches.  Since I couldn't see the bullseye at 100 yards I was just aiming center mass on my target so it would appear to be more than MOD @ 100 yards.  FWIW, I have owned several inline MZs that wouldn't shoot a 4" group @ 100 yards with conicals and a 9x scope so not a bad group (for me) without magnification.

I will be shooting BH209 again as soon as my free Triple 7 powder & pellets are gone.  BTW, the reccommendation to "crack" the breech plug after a couple of shots with 777 is a good one, too bad I didn't remember this until I got home. :o >:(
