Wax Bullets
« on: July 07, 2011, 07:10:56 AM »
What is the loading procedure for shooting wax bullets using a cap and ball revolver?
I shoot wax bullets in my modern SAs just using 209 primers and casings.
This is my first time for cap and ball revolvers.

I'm not sure it would work. Seems like any amount of black powder would destroy a wax bullet. Maybe a cartridge conversion?

Now, why shoot wax bullets? Fast draw practice?

You could use a wonder wad between your powder and wax which might keep it from melting , but without the back pressure a piece of lead gives, it won't get that hot anyhow.
For a DIY shoot & see, you could use color crayons and a basement wall.
Have fun & keep us posted.

I never tried wax bullets in my revolvers, but I did try .45 caliber rubber projectiles.  The cap just didn't have enough power to make the use of them feasible.

So I tried "glu-lets."  Still no go.

What I ended up using in my basement range was a glu-let ahead of 3 gr. FFFG with the rest of the chamber filled up with that Mooslum cereal, Ka-reem of Wheat.   ;D

The smoke wasn't bad at all, but I did kick up the ventilation so Kathie wouldn't complain.   ;)

Hello, sniper.  Years ago..long cold winter..gettting bored & needing to do some shooting.  I made up a swage to make beeswax balls.  Took nipples out of cyl. & using bench lathe, drilled out to nearly large i.d. dia.  These worked great with CCI non-corrosive caps across garage.  Balls have quite a punch..as they will flatten..Watch your backstop..these are not toys!  CAUTION!!!  be sure to remove those oversized nipples & replace with proper one before loading with powder!  The hammer would most likely be blown back to full cock..destroying action works in process.
