New CVA OPTIMA vs. TC OMEGA
« on: July 22, 2011, 04:45:44 PM »
Im trying to decide between these two guns both in stainless steel models. Which is the better muzzleloader and why? I can get them both for about the same money new. The Omega is the newer Dream Season edition with shorter barrel and flex tech stock.

If I were going to buy today,  it would be the optima.

I'd take the TC, though the easy 1st choice is a Knight. ;)

I wish I had kept my first Omega.  Great rifle after I got it figured out, but sold it for an X-7.  Nothing but problems with both of them (second was a factory replacement for the first).  Got tired of fighting with accuracy issues/flyers and picked up a new old stock Knight Disc XT.  Wow, never went back.  It's a dirty beast, tho.  I picked up a new Optima last summer from Cabelas pretty cheap and all I can say is WOW.  Accuracy is outstanding and clean up is a breeze.  The Knight might be a little bit more accurate, but both are capable of 200 yd clean kils and the trade off with clean up makes the Optima the go to now.  There is no dirt on the breach side of the barrel and the new style "finger removal" breech plug is everything they say and more!  Don't get me wrong on the accuracy, I'm talking 1/4" bigger groups at 100 with the Optima.  The only thing I don't like about it is the light/hollow butstock makes it barrel heavy, although recoil is on par with the near 8# Knight.  You won't go wrong with the Optima, and I've found that every post about it from Bigblock has been spot on!

Denny, you can fix that cheap buttstock...Get some Great Stuff insulating foam in a can from Lowes Hardware and about 6-8 ounces of lead...Remove the butt pad, spray the foam inside that hollow butt stock and insert lead...Let dry and cut off any foam that comes out the rear of the butt stock and reapply the pad...

I like the Omega, gun shoots everything (different grain bullets) great.
