I've got a couple of boxes of old gun magazines like Guns and Ammo. Some go back to the early 80s. I don't want them anymore but I don't want to just dump them. Can you suggest a good way to keep them in circulation?

Good question! I am in the same boat!

I have quite a collection of old gun mags from Outdoor Life, Shooting Times, Guns & Ammo, Petersen`s Hunting, NRA Rifle, etc. Some of mine go back to the early 70`s, one or two late 60`s I believe!

I used to buy those things by the ton, but as I continually trained and dept.s sent me to more and more schools, and I gained more experience, I realized they were nothing more than "sale catalogs" in story and so called "range test" form. I tore my name and address off them, and chunked them.
HOWEVER! You might donate them to a doctor or dentist office. That would be a welcome change from better homes and garden while waiting.

Depending on if you want to mess with shipping. You could put them up for sale in bundles(no guarrantees) and the moneys sent to the GBO donation funds

I donate my old ones to the local Senior citizens center.....

Most of the residents can't afford to buy them but enjoy reading them.

Actually I don't buy them anymore except "Fur,Fish,&Game" the rest friends send me from down south, in a flat rate box.

The only mags I read, I subscribe to. They are Fur Fish & Game, and Backwoodsman.

i dont know if there is even a way to do it, but anytime me or any of my buds was in the hospital for more than a day, we wud of killed for a box of gun rags!you might get with sum vets and see if they know anyone thats down would like them?

You could get up with dinny here on the site he was saying that the guys overseas like to get them so they had something to read in the downtime. I would be willing to help with the shipping if you guys would donate them to our solders.

That's an excellent idea!

I have a few addresses that we could mail them to for the troops. I don't want to publicly post the address so an email or PM (from vested GBO members - no guests, newbies, etc.) is best.

I put them in the Range Office at the gun club. They are always gone in a few days.

I think the idea of shipping them to the folks in the sandbox is a great one.

Some of the more rural schools used to take and put them in the libary.
I doubt any of the metro schools would take them because of thier "No Guns Policies".

It is a little "pricey" to ship them to the Sandbox - but no fee is too large against their "blank check". I know first hand. My son was there for four tours and he received ALL of my old mags in multiple copy paper boxes (about 6) @ 18" L x 11" H x 12" W. Each went for about $40.00 (+/-), weighed ~30 pounds to APO address w/Overseas Customs Declaration on each.

The local library would probably take them too. Ours has G&A to check out and gives the old ones away. Lots of good suggestions here. Some Drs offices and hospitols might take them too. POWDERMAN.

I concur with Dee, most doctor offices I visit only have women’s or medical mags. Another place that may take them is your local library, I drop off magazines to them and they give them away.

helping out the troops sounds like a good idea, in fact I think I will check with the VA Hospital here in Denver and see if they would like some!!

I like the idea to send them to the troops. A collector may pick them up on E-Bay but the troops are worth more that a nominal dollar amount. I think the war zone troops are the priority right now. Dinny, can the USO help with that?

I leave mine at my barber shop,dentist and doctors office. I usually take some and leave them wherever I have to wait.

The wife takes the labels off and put them on the tables in the waiting room at her office. She works at the JAG office at Fort Wainwright. The GIs really like reading them while they wait. She also takes the catalogs I get as well. When we get a new batch of troops in the catalogs seem to disappear fast. Especially the Cabela's and Red Head ones.

If you roll them up tight and wrap a piece of heavy wire around them, they burn nicely in a wood stove. Pull the wire out later, rewrap, and repeat.
