Anyone have a NCStar scope?
« on: January 06, 2004, 02:43:30 AM »
I am looking for any results that people have had with NCStar.  I have a new barrel and need a new scope.  I have very little cash and was looking at the NCStar 2-6x32.  Any comments?

here's one guys review. http://www.handgunhunt.com/reviews/r14/index.html

they look great in every way, but i'll guarantee it's a gamble. it may, or may not last. if it does, you done good, but if it doesn't you've lost your money invested.
couldn't ask for any better than the 2.5x ncstar on my 22/45 ruger, but it may break tomorrow.
you'd be better served with a simmons 2x6, or bushnell trophy 2x6, if you're wanting to save a little dough, and still be safe. :money:

Great story thanks.  I am still unsure if I should spend the extra 60 and get the simmons 2-6.

A bad scope is far worse than useing iron sights. I use nothing but Leupolds. I have had problems with every other brand I`ve ever had, but so far not with the Leupolds and I have one that has been used and abused since the 1960`s. I tried 1 Burrius, a 3 x 9 on a .357 max. and the point of impact move 6 in. when you went from 9x to 3x. I would recomend that you not buy a scope till you can get a Leupold, the wait will be worth it.

if there's any possible way to get hold of the extra greenbacks, do it. don't scrimp too much on optics, unless there's no other way. even if you have to wait a extra week, or two to come up with it.

uhhh, i have 5 or 6 burris handgun scopes, without a minutes problem. :?
leupold is nice, but i'm not so sure they are miles ahead of the burris.

DO NOT GET THE NCSTAR!!!  This is from someone who has been there done that--twice.  One was a red dot on a 223 barrel, it last about 60 rounds and whille the dot still works the glass inside is leanig on its side so the dot is not seen when looking through the scope.  The second was their 4x placed on an -06 barrel, it held up for awhile and I actully thought it may last.  I was wrong, 15 min after discussing with my friend about how well the scope held up it blew the rheostat off the side leaving a big hole in the side of the scope.  Oh, I bought themat the same time, I didn't purchase another after one broke.  Spend the extra for a simmons or wait until you can get a bushnell trophy or even an elite.  Now I have a burris 2x7 on my -06 and my kids play with the 4x.  I lost my money, don't make the same mistake I did.

NCStar Scopes

BigBuck:  if you are referring to the 'Star' scopes, the ones they used to call the Red Star scopes, the inexpensive, short scopes made in China to 'Russian' Military design, get a Bushnell.

I have had 4 of those inexpensive jobs.  One sits comfortably on my ruger 10/22, one is available to replace that and the other two I use for 'telescopes' whenever children visit.

They are not high powered (anything over 22lr) rifle scopes and do not last.  Save your money and get a Bushnell.  HTH.  Mikey.

I wrote the review above.  To this date the 4x is still working fine.  Next time I fire it that may change.

You did not mention what caliber your new barrel was. If it is bigger than a 22 rf I woud look for a better scope.

As I said in the article ,it would not put it on a hard kicker, but it works very good for a 22 rf.   Jeff

I guess the NC 2-6x32 scope that I wanted only has a 4" eye relief.  That wont work.  Does anyone know different?
