douglas .308 barrel
« on: August 12, 2011, 04:13:27 PM »
Just in case anyone is interested.  Here are the initial results of my Rebarreled m700 from .243 to .308 WCF .  I loaded some 150 seirra's 150 Hornady and 150 speer bullets I used varget and AA 2520.  the speer bullets seemed to average groups about 1.5 inches using different loads of the two powders i mentioned.  But Sierra and Hornady 150 spitzers shoot regulars groups of .750 sometimes less. 7 out of ten groups are under an inche the rest just barrely over it.

I used a Douglas XX barrel. and simply had  it threaded and chambered  by a local guy. he did great work and very reasonable in cost.   I was going to send it off to one of the folks who advertise in gun magazines (several guys actually) and not one even returned my email or phone call.  and I had money in hand!  Glad I was able to help a local guy any way!

So if you are wondering if Douglas Barrels are worth it.  I would say so.  I shoot cast bullets in it for practice and jacketed bullets for hunting so barrel life won't be an issue. and frankly i doubt even the average reloader would really wear out a barrel given the cost of rifle bullets.  About 25 bucks a box or close to it for Regular prohunter type bullets.

My guess is that the rifle will shoot even smaller groups.  I have a Douglas Premium Match 18" on my AR and it shoots under MOA and when I have done my part, (threre is the problem), .5"
