Winchester 94, 32 special, cicra 1906
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:34:24 PM »
I have a Winchester 94, 32 special, built 1906. It has a Williams peep sight on the rear and a lyman sight on the front, looks like it says 26ND inscribed on it. My problem is i have the rear sight down as far as it will go and it is still shooting high (about 5 inches) at 50 yards. the front sight is 7/16 in tall and it needs to be taller in order for me to have some play room at the rear. any suggestions  on where or how to get a taller front sight?  thanks

[26ND inscribed on it]

FWIW:

"26" is the bead size, 1/16" ( a larger size, 3/16", is available).

"ND" is the bead material (Ivory or Gold), and the height (7/16").

You need a higher front sight blade - but the sighting error should not be measured @ 50 yards, since the standard measuring distance for calculating sight heights is 100 yards.

It looks like your sighting error will work out to be approx 10" too high @ 100yds - so I would replace your 26ND with the Lyman VA/VF .560" tall front sight blade, with the Ivory or Gold bead in the size of your choice.

Thanks for the replies. This rifle is really old, the front site is soldered to the barrel, there is no dovetail. It looks more in the line of a lyman 26CF or 26GF. I have removed the peep and will try the regular rear sight and see how that works.  I have a feeling i am going to have to have one made if i decide i have to go with a taller front sight.
