Guess I'll need to add FDA to the list of gov't agencies to be shut down if I'm even dictator.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Looks like a war against the Amish and small time farmers at the local farmers market. Must not be getting enough taxes out of them ::)

I was raised on raw milk, I still shake a bottle up before I drink out of habit.

Raw milk is bad but the FDA will allow a pharm company create a bogus condition such as "shift work disorder" so they can market a pill to "cure" it. The miracle pill is called Nuvigil. I have worked odd shifts my entire adult life and I dont have any of the problems they claim I should have. They are also marketing it to my fellow public saftey workers but it states you should avoid driving when first taking it Take a look at it's possible side effects-I'll bet raw milk doesnt have "suicidal/homocidal" side effects.
http://www.nuvigil.com/#isi
"What are possible side effects of NUVIGIL?
  • Stop taking NUVIGIL and call your doctor or get emergency help if you get any of the following serious side effects:
    • Mental (psychiatric) symptoms, including: depression, feeling anxious, sensing things that are not really there, extreme increase in activity (mania), thoughts of suicide, aggression, or other mental problems
    • Symptoms of a heart problem, including: chest pain, abnormal heart beat, and trouble breathing
  • Common side effects of NUVIGIL are headache, nausea, dizziness, and trouble sleeping. These are not all the side effects of NUVIGIL.
  • Tell your doctor if you get any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. Talk to your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
What should I avoid while taking NUVIGIL?
  • Do not drive a car or do other dangerous activities until you and your doctor know how NUVIGIL affects you.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol."

Same here, the whole family was raised on it. More fed govt interference. I remember many yrs ago when the feds shut down most all of the small dairy farms with unnecessary laws designed to hurt the little guy. Milk used to be cool stored in large milk cans and picked up early in the morning. One neighbor drove the truck, lost his job, other good friends couldn't afford the new equipment ordered by the feds and sold their dairy cattle. Like Billy I too give the milk jug a shake before I pour it and til now had forgotten why I do that. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Were I live you can buy raw milk for your pets, but you can't drink it. I don't have any dogs or cats so I have to buy it for my chickens. They really love the homemade yogurt and blue berry ice cream. One of the hens likes to put it in her coffee. Soon I'm going to start making cheese for them.

Way back in the 1950s they changed the dairy business. The farmers who could not afford to buy Bulk systems, electric milkers which fed the milk direct to cooler from cow had to bow out. This allowed the larger dairys to pick-up milk in refrigerated trucks  with a hose and transport it to large distribution centers.  Without access to this system you could not sell at  the higher Grade A level.  The farmers without this sold milk in cans and could only be used make cheese  etc. They were soon gone. The local dairies that were located in farm town were gone also. If you grew up where you had little local dairies you will recall that great ice cream, milk and butter you used to get.  The large Dariies took over and and we have the poor quality government controlled products of our time. The years have passed and you are  now told what you can have and what is fit for your dog.  And Americans then as now bought the old line.  We are just looking out for you health. ???

Sidewinder what you say is true, I saw it too. That is why I am the Lost Farmboy. When my grandparents died my parents didn't want to take over the family dairy farms because the government screwed things up too bad.

The government passed a law that the farmers had to spray their cows with DDT, because flies might spread diseases. My grandfather bought a sprayer and can of DDT like the rest of the farmers. Then a month later he traded his full can for the neighbors half full can so the government inspectors would think he was using it. He said no way he was going to spray his precious Guernseys with poison.

Powderman my lucky chickens probably eat better than most of the people reading this. They free range a lot. Their eggs are so healthy they are probably illegal too. I think they like the pistachio ice cream as much at the blue berry.  ;)

LOST. We don't have chickens anymore but get fresh eggs from a neighbor, we keep him in summer squash, green peppers, cucumbers, and tomatos. My wife and I were talking about how blessed we are yesterday. Those city folk eggs with the pale yellers just don't have the same taste. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Powerman they don’t have the same nutrition either. Those bright orange yolks are full of Omega 3 fatty acids. They are as healthy as salmon without the mercury. (salmon are one of the lowest mercury content fish) good for the heart, eyes and brain. And many other nutrients too numerous to number.

You are indeed blessed. A great mix of vegetables to trade for great eggs. You are talking about the old America I love!!! where a man can grow healthy delicious food and trade with neighbors doing the same.

Unfortunately the government just outlawed every thing we are doing. Did you know that senate bill S510 made it illegal for you to trade your great vegetables for those awesome eggs? What are we going to do about this? (they had to go with the senate bill because too many republicans got elected to the congress to use their bill. I don't like the republicans either but have to give credit where credit is due.) With the bill authorizing 14,000 new FDA agents(budget buster waste of taxpayer dollars) I think we can see a lot more Amish going to jail for selling (good healthy) raw milk.

My uncle sold eggs to regular customers every week. The ones in the city he fed those chicken seperately, I believe he withheld the corn, because the city folks couldn't handle the darker yolks, they were used to the store bought and were afraid something was wrong with the dark yellow yolks. HEH, my neighbors and I give to each other anyway so it's not really barter, we hung a bag of tomatoes on our mailbox for the mail lady, she hasn't been able to garden for several years now.  POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Powderman and Farm Boy there are now only a few of us left who can recall when free Americans lived very well upon on this land.  Before government control eggs and milk were used to raise a healthy race of people. The corporate farms and Federal regs have turned even these staples into poison. It is to know you fellows are keeping the past alive. I think the same thing is true in growing tobacco. We used to lease our tobacco, very small poundage. A neighbor offered to give me a fat hog in the fall for the 160lbs I was allotted, I agreed. After he left another guy asked why we didn't sign any papers. I said, we made a deal and shook hands, what more could you ask?? He said, how do you know how big the hog will be?? I said it will be the biggest he has to butcher come fall, he's my friend. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

There are still some Amish who run a clean operation and thier milk is safe to use. I make my own butter and cheese curd with it. Still have and use station cans. I love those fresh brown eggs that stand up in a frying pan, not flatten out like store bought. They make the nicest pasta you ever dropped in boiling water too.

One of my first jobs was trucking. The first long haul east was real adventure. We picked up a back haul out of Adair, Ky.(I think that was the name). Well anyway that was in the fall of 1958.  The growers were producing a very fine product.  The tobacco products were later locked up and sealed inside vaults and pumped full of poisons. This was to meet Federal Regs. The rest is history.  ???

I grew up in the early 50's. We had Milk cows, Pigs and chickens. Most of the neighbors also had cows, but those that didn't had other animals or produce and we all traded. I remember taking milk on a daily basis to an old Colored lady. "That's what she called herself" She would sometimes make Head Cheese and even though it was full of cholesterol causing fat, I loved it!!!!She would give us some at times and this was her way of sharing the bounty!

We even sold some milk, and the money from the milk went back into the feeding of the livestock.
I don't have the milk cows or pigs today, but I have 5 big hens and 7 Bantams, so I know how farm fresh eggs taste......YUM! Had an omelet just this morning.
