ruger mk2 holster
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:41:50 AM »
I have a ruger mk2 with the 6 7/8 heavy target barrel. I just had it drilled and tapped and now have a tru glo red dot on it. I'm looking for a hip holster for it to accomidate the optics. I know Blackdog makes one but I keep reading reviews of it being harsh on finishes. I'd like something that is long enough to cover the barrel. The only other one I can find is one made by I want to say american classic but I don't think it's long enough for the barrel.  Thanks for the help.

You might call or email Ben Wetzel at Idaho Leather.   Ben's a great gent who has been making holsters for over 50 years.    They are very well made and for very reasonable prices.   I last talked to him about 6 months ago - he still loves making them.

I have one that is a model for the Rugers, High Standards, Browning Challenger, etc with longer barrels that was made by Ben or his father in the late 50's and was used for my HD Military 6 3/4" in the 60's when I carried it some.   It is still as good as new except for a little paint rub on the snap.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I ended up ordering a black dog mag, I know I'm going to have to modify it due to the scope mount I have and the thumb rest. Also I'm going to try to put molle skin on the inside to limit or prevent the scratching effect. I'll post on my outcomes.

The Holster came in today and I had to dremel away part of the inside so it would except my thumb rest grips. I didn't have to remove any material from the top in order for the tru glo or ruger factory scope mount to clear. After i got the tension set to where I liked it I did notice some slight marks in the bluing from the holster from the ribs that hold the pistol in place. so I went and put some molle skin I had in my archery gear arounf the ribs (which turned out to be slightly higher then the ribs) that seemd to take care of the marking from the holster plus it makes it a lil bit quieter to use. All in all the construction and quality was very good am glad I bought it now I have a holster to do 22lr speed matches and to carry my red dot mounted pistol with me on my squirrel hunts.
