Spending more is the government's ONLY idea. During all of the debt ceiling debate I kept thinking "what's the point of a debt ceiling if they can just raise it whenever they exceed it?"
Some 15 years ago Colorado passed a measure called the "Tax Payer Bill of Rights" which prohibited the raising of taxes without voter approval. So did the slime balls say "OK the voters have spoken and they want us to live within our means?" No, of course not, they immediately began sniffing out ways around the bill. The main one they have come up with is "fees". They say a "fee" is not a tax and therefore they can increase fees or invent new fees without violating the law. Thus our vehicle registration fee has doubled and doubled again and there are new fees for use of parks and recreation areas. If the slime balls spent half as much time trying to live within the limits as they have spent trying to circumvent them there would be no problem and no need for new "fees", but that just never crossed their crooked minds.
