Ruger 32 follow-up
« on: January 10, 2004, 08:23:33 AM »
Mrs. has expressed a slight interest in CAS and wants to go to the range before a match to get familar with the firearms.  She's a good shot just doesn't want to do something wrong/dangerous at the match.
I'm thinking that less recoil is better for her.  I have a backup Marlin (it's .38) and if I download the 12 gauge any more you will hear the pellets running down the barrel  (both my brother, who shoots, and I have had rotator culf surgery on our right shoulders.)--I reload for bot of us.
My revolvers right now are 45 Colt and to keep the recoil down and so they fit her hand I've ordered a pair of Ruger 32's.  Should be here next week.  While I'm waiting I've cast two sets of bullets, one is Lee's .311 and the other is SAECO's .313--some discussion on whether the Ruger takes .311 or .313.
Today I set up the SDB for the 32 and took about 30 minutes doing it.  Just took my time and got everything set correctly.  NOTE:  if you are considering this remember that the 32 will need the extra-small powder measure.  The small one can't be set low enough (another $20 or so).  Also recorded the necessary changes for the bullet seating die and crimper as the two bullets are just enough different that you have to tweak the settings.
Got 50 rounds of each loaded so now all we are lacking are the guns.

Shot them last night and they are nice.  Used 2 gr of Bullseye over the Lee 93 gr cast bullets.  They will need an action job but should be just the ticket for my wife.

I know what ya mean, Pard! My wife loves her .32s. As far as the action work......I took my 45 Birds heads in to get them smoothed out and new springs put in. My wife asked me why I was taking a new guns into the smith to have work done on 'em. Well, when they came back I had her cock and pull the trigger on hers, then I had her do the same with mine. The next words out of her mouth were "can I get mine done like that too?"

Just gotta love our women!! :-D

Right on.  Decided if the Mrs. is joining up I wanted her stuff to be equal to or better than mine.  My RV's have been to the 'smith and Monday we are off on a day trip that will just pass by the 'smith.  I'll be dropping them off and reloading a bunch of rounds for when they get back.
