Hello Melsdad,
Interestingly enough, the 4570's (like most calibers) are all over the map in front sight height.
In one day I fielded two phone calls... Both customers using the Skinner "GUIDE GUN SET" on Marlin GBL's...
First customer called to say, "The .500" front sight was WAY too tall... WHYYYYY do you ship them so tall???" (He trimmed his down to about .350 and said it worked great, just wondered why I make them .500")
Second customer called to say, "I need a TALLER front sight, the .500" was a bit too short, can you send me one about .550 - .575" ?"
The Skinner GUIDE GUN FRONT SIGHT is made to bridge both of those extremes by simply "trimming" it to the height needed with a sharp file and touching up with cold blue. The straight bladed Patridge front sight can be shortened to factory height (.300") or used at .500" or..... Anywhere in between.
The variations in Rifle,Load,Shooter combinations preclude a "One Size Fits All" approach to sight combinations.
Consequently, I ship a LOT of front sight/cold blue/brass punch orders and folks are able to "dial" in with the Skinner Rear Sight set at 1 turn up from bottomed out, allowing for load changes, personal preferences, etc down the road.
I hope that explains why our sights are "over tall" ! As one customer expressed it... "Please ship my front sight tall since removing metal is a lot easier than putting it back on!"
Thanks Melsdad!
Andy
