Heart patient question
« on: August 25, 2011, 06:31:50 AM »
My friend's wife is in her mid-70s and has a lot of health problems. Diabetes, heart patient, recent knee replacement that had complications.

A couple of weeks ago she had to go to the hospital to have "fluid removed from her heart". Sorry, I don't know a better description than that. Last week she had to go back three times for the same procedure. My friend says it becomes more frequent as the heart gets weaker.

What can you tell me about this? This does not look good. Is there any recovery from this?

Am asking here because a few forum members mentioned being heart patients themselves.

Fluid builds up in the Pericardium, the membrane around the heart.  The fluid build up is caused by infection.  I had that problem after my By-pass.

Personnel opinion, in someone as weak and aged as your friend.  Their body can not fight off the infection causing the fluid buildup.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Thanks for the informed opinion. I appreciate it. My friend has been basically working full time taking care of her. It's a bad situation.
