Hunting Heritage Legislation
« on: July 09, 2011, 08:32:36 AM »
From what I read in The Newberry News this past Wednesday, there are two "Hunting Heritage" bills going before the Michigan Governor for signature.  The main feature in common to these bills is that parents would decide when their kids were ready for hunter safety and learning to hunt, not having to wait for an arbitrary age set by the State.  In addition to the obvious benefits to the family, it will encourage youngsters to hunt early and will generate revenue for both business and the State.

I often read in these forums of kids elsewhere taking their first deer at 7, 8 or 9 while our kids have to sit on the sidelines and wait.

I think it's a great idea.  There are a lot of kids under 12 who are mature and responsible enough to hunt - and who better to judge than their parents.
On the other hand there are some people out there who never reach the age of maturity - regardless of their age!
