Gun Store heads up
« on: August 22, 2011, 04:39:35 AM »
Ok being near Green Top Sporting goods spoils a fellow. Add the fact that 25 + gun stores exist with in a couple hour drive or less seeing a gun shop that impresses is well not every day . BUT over the weekend I visited Mackey's Landing Firearms in Jamesville NC. They have adiquate ammo, some cleanning stuff as well as cases . Nothing to write home about really but nice. What they do have in spades is guns , 7000 plus . Want a super Blackhawk 357 max ? they got one . A-5 Browning they got them from old cracked stocks to looks like NIB , 28 ga O/U or SXS ? bunches on the wall. Black powder , old Colts , S&W's pick a model. WW-1or2 45 acp's ? 1919, 1914 and others. If you have an intrest in nice to fine guns they have some . The folks let ya wander around and look all ya want no salesman breathing down your neck. So if you have a rain day while on the outer banks or find yourself with a little time while on US 17 near SR 64  a detour by the store would be worth while. They have a Gattling gun for sale 50 cal I think . Think about it if you have a cannon that Gattling gun would even out the display  ;D
I had a good time looking around and hope to pass back thru one day.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Green Top, is that on old rt1 between Richmond and Ashland?
If so, I have been there many times, though not in a long time.
Where are you from?
I am in Winchester.

Mackey's Landing has their share alright but I'm not sure about their claim of being the worlds largest gun shop.  Their are places all over the country that are similar.  http://www.whittakerguns.com/ outside Owensboro Ky is just another one.  Oh, and I hear Whittaker's is for sale if ya got a few mil ya ain't usin.

Quite true, but I honestly think all the trouble the old bat gave him over the range a while back along with some other things have just become too much to handle.

I love Whittakers and have bought from them. Seems like good folks to deal with. Problem is they are 90 miles away. I had no idea it was for sale. Hope they don't just close up. I like the Owensboro area. Thats one of the few gun shops I know of where you can just reach up on the rack and look over anything you want to.  POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Could have been Stonewall Arms or Old Dominion Sport Center.
Both are a little high or it could have been Gander Mountain, very high!

Yes Clark Brothers is a nice place with tons of stuff but to close to DC so the prices are pretty high.
The elder Mr. Clark was a very personal friend of mine before he passed away.
I really don't know the other brothers that well.
