B&C Carbelite stock- bedding and painting
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:51:20 AM »

Dear Guys,

I am looking at buying a used Bell & Carlson carbelite stock, for really cheap.  It has their camo pattern printed on it.

   I have two questions:

   1.   If I want to glass bed this stock, will acra-glass stick to it?

    2.  Has anyone had any experience trying to spray paint these carbelitte stocks?   Do I need to sand off the camo finish first?   What type of spray paint (or epoxy) would stick to it.

  Thanks for all info.

When glas bedding this stock I use a grindstone in a hand grinder or drill to rough up the inside of the action area and the first two inches of the barrel channel in front of the action.  Actually you should do this on all the synthetic stocks for some of them are too slick for the acra glas to stick well.

You should be able to paint over the camo finish with no problem,

Two paints I have used in the past and like:

Martin Senour 7918 Black Splatter Paint
Illinois Bronze 336 Wrinkle Finish French Grey

U.S. Airforce 1961-1967
Lackland AFB,  Sheppard AFB, Texas
Homestead AFB FLorida, 1962-63 Cuban Crisis
Loring AFB, Maine 1963-1964
AFTAC Alexandria, VA 1965-1967

Freedom is not cheap in any sense of the word.  Only those willing to fight for it will have it in the long run.
