Best scope rings for 45-70 Ultra Hunter
« on: August 31, 2011, 08:15:49 AM »
I just bought a used Burris signature safari 1.75x5  scope.  I thought it would be a good scope with a lot of eye relief for my 45-70.  I am now looking for the right scope rings that will hold up under the recoil.  I am considering medium height Burris Zee rings.  What rings are you using on your hard recoiling rifles?  Thanks for the help.

I use medium Burris Signature Zee rings (421520) and have not had any problem. These have worked with all of my Handi rifles regardless of scope size or manufacture.

Another vote for Burris Zees.

+1 another one for the Burris Zee or Signture Zees, I have more of them than any other ring on my H&Rs. My only complaints are they don't make the Signatures Zees in low and they discontued the extra low Zee rings, otherwise they're an excellent choice.

As usual, thanks for all of the good responses.  I guess Burris Signature Zee Rings it is.  Tim, I know you are also shooting the 45-70 Stainless Ultra Hunter.  The Burris Safari only has a 32mm objective lens so I will not have a scope clearance problem but will I need the medium height rings to clear the hammer spur?

If you can mount the scope rearward or possibly forward far enough to clear the power ring/ocular bell, you can use mediums, otherwise you'll have to use high rings or trim the hammer spur.

Conetrols, if you can afford them. I concur with the others for Burris z rings.
