 The last 3 dang nights something has got loose from a set. Last night it was twice. Dont know if it is a coon or not! I have tried 3 different ways with a bucket set. First I had it standing upright with a n opening cut out from top to 4" from bottom with a 1.75 dls Victor in bottom of bucket with bait behind it. Twice my trap has been empty at the end of the chain. Yesterday evening I set the bucket on it's side & covered trap with small leaves. Checked it last night ........empty trap!!! Immediately reset but turned bucket upside down! I go look this morning same sh*# trap at end of chain bucket not even disturbed!!!!!!!!      So now i says to myself..................self I says it's time to break out the old live trap & put an end once & for all to this set plaguing So#ofab@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-D :-D :-D But seriously does anybody have a clue as to what's been messing me up? Anybody wanna take bet's on it?

I use either spearmin, peppermint or vanilla on a cotton pad to call em in & then get em in the bucket with sardines. Believe you me I wish I had a couple of 220s. But jus startn & moola is tight!
I was looking through my r-p outdoors catalog at some body grips last night. Are the 280s too much? I would rather spend a little more & be confident I've got enough trap actualy what bothered me was hole size. I guess after catching a few in them I will gain confidence with em huh?

Tabby,I have trapped in MS., you sure do not need 280s for your coon.
160's are all you need.
My suggestion to you, forget about the bucket, try a dirt hole.

Yeah I havent tried the dirt hole yet . But what about all the pullouts? Will he still keep pulling out or will this allow a better hold on him?
Fishdaddy that mint stuff has been calling em in good for me. Even after a rain I can walk up to a set & the mint will still be strong on that cotton pad.

guarding a bucket with a 220 or 160 is the ticket. i've found that they aren't too expensive. if i can remember what i just paid it was like 5 or 6 bucks a piece. i can also atest that they probably won't get away from ya either. good luck. all this talk about coon trappin is gettin me excited, up here the coons are still sleeping.

I finaly spotted tracks today it is a coon. I spent awhile today repairing my old homemade live trap :-D In another hour or so I'll be slipping out there to check on things. I also have some trail sets to check on that I put out today. I need some bunnies to train a hound with. 220 coni's are definitely in the plans.
