triple shock bullet at short range
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:53:56 AM »
I have gotten the idea that a Hornady sp moving out of a 300 weatherby at 3000 fps would do alot of meat damage under 100 yds. . I have a box of the new Barnes triple shock bullets in 180 gr. I was wondering if anyone knew how they would work on deer under 100 yds moving at 3000fps. I have heard reports of them passing through and not opening up. Does anyone know how they would work in the above situation ??

I have never seen a Barnes bullet fail from any caliber at any range. I have used them in the 25 caliberrs and 6.5 for quite a while. They work fine. Only complaint is trying to keep the copper cleaned out and they have to be real clean to shoot well. I quit the 300 Mags for deer. Just to much meat damage. I used a 300 Win Mag for several seasons. Now I save them for T-Rex and maybe Moose.
shot placement is everything.
