First Course!
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:06:36 AM »
A group of old friends got together last Sunday and shot our first course of Sporting Clays. We shot 50 rounds at the Owens Station Shooting Preserve in Greenwood, De.

It was a great time and we all enjoyed the opportunity to shoot. Our score weren’t the greatest at 27, 26, 23, 22, and 10 by my son. The group can only get better and we are planning to shot a course a month.

I was using a CZ Mallard in 20 ga. with an I.C. and Mod. Choke tubes. The next time I plan on using a skeet and I.C. choke. The mod. choke tube was a little too tight to use for the ranges. I was using ¾ oz. of #8s in a reload and will continue to use this load. I do feel I need to load some 7/8 oz. loads with #7.5 of magnum shot for the rocket and longer shots. The other thing I learned is I need a clay shooting vest. I have a dove vest and it is to short and uncomfortable with the load of shells, water, and hulls.

I do have a question about the tip/gratuity for the trapper. What are the guidelines for this? General shooting, competition, skeet, trap, and sporting Clays. Is it 10, 15, 20% like a waitress or waiter at a restaurant.

Enjoy!
