I got to go out last night with a friend. He took an AK, so I carried my 12ga with reduced recoil 00 Buck. It's what I keep in it for home defense. We spotted a couple of big sows and chased them into the brush. After a few minutes, I heard them on our left and they bolted. I fired on the first one, about 50 yds away, and she didn't even slow down. The second one was about 30yds away, and I did what I normally do and aimed for the head/neck. I was quickly reminded that buck doesn't fly as fast as a 55gr out of a .223. I hit her hind quarters and she was down. Finished her wth the pistol. Later we chased down a boar in an open field and while shooting (and missing) out of the window of the truck, my buddy ran me through a mesquite tree. . .thankfully the mirror caught the brunt of it. Later we came on another sow with some little ones and 25yd head shot put her down quite quickly. Overall, I thought the 00 Buck I was using performed quite well. It is certainly limited on range. But up in the brush and out to about 35yds, I think it'll do a pretty good job. But again, shot placement is still more important than what is coming out of the end of the barrel.
