model 36 pre-lock
« on: August 30, 2011, 05:48:23 AM »
I found what I think is a good deal last week, a model 36 round butt s&w made in 1986, this little gunshop/hardware store had the old registration from the guy who brought it in to sell it, said he bought it new, his papers said 1986.  The people claimed it had never been fired...beats me, I could find no sign of it being fired, although I'm sure it was at the factory, no line around the cylinder, bluing was perfect, regardless of it was shot or not it was not carried.  So I offered the nice lady 300 bucks, she took it, 300 out the door. They had 325 on it, which I thought was reasonable.  Even though there are papers saying it was registered in 86, I tried to look up the serial number, but I find it's really hard to get a serial number dated on these. Has the Prefix AEK04XX on the butt of the gun.  Can't even find that prefix surfing the net...?  Anyway, this will make a good carry piece, it's time to wear some bluing off this thing, long over due.  Sometimes the best deals are in those little places in small towns...

That's a good deal. You might PM Hammerdown for a date of manufacturer. Or, contact S&W for a history letter for more exact dates of manufacter and original shipping dates. I have a '84 Model 10 and a '87 model 19 that are golden! And a Model 28 from '58. All three are "on duty" and take deer for recreation and feeding their owner. A 36 in that era should have a heavy, but smooth, trigger pull..... and as reliable as taxes..... Have fun with it....
