Lube Grooves?

Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone knows why cast bullets all seem to have grooves... but not jacketed bullets, which I'd guess present more friction?

The grooves on cast bullets are meant to carry bullet lube that prevent the lead from tinning to the barrel on its trip down the hole.
Jacketed bullets don't need lube so they don't have the lube grooves.
You can however shoot paper patch bullets which are cast bullets with no lube grooves wrapped in a couple of layers of thin paper.

In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

Hello, flmason..Good observation! As a matter of fact, the first jacketed .30-40 Krag bullets did have lube grooves & lubricant..Springfield arsenal must have had the same concern over friction. But these were very short lived.
