38-55 barrels, are they drilled and tapped for scope mounts?
« on: September 14, 2011, 03:31:57 PM »
I have a lead on a H & R walnut stocked rifle in 38-55 Win.  I don't think they make these anymore but does anyone know if these rifles were drilled and tapped for scope mounts.  I am told that it has a peep sight with a set of interchangable front inserts.  I would like to have this rifle just because of the caliber but I can't see to shoot iron sights anymore.

Yes, any H&R rifle made 1987 and later is drilled and tapped for a scope rail, the 38-55 Target came with a Williams WGRS rear sight which uses the two rear scope mount holes, front sight is a Lyman 17A globe sight which is dovetailed, the Target was last made in 2007.
