Hey folks,

   Recently bought a ruger LCP and love it except for ammo prices! My range is indoors and only allows lead bullets, no gas checks or jackets. Ordered some 95 grain LRN bullets from missouri bullet company and was wondering if any of you guys had any loads with red dot? My grandfather gave me a huge keg of it, as he hasn't shot trap in many years. He has a nice supply of green dot also I can have. The alliant website doesn't have much data and lyman manual lists loads for a 90 grain and 120 grain cast bullet. Should I use the 90 grain bullet data and reduce the minimum charger further?

I have used red dot for years for reduced loads in the 44 Mag, as well as the 45 acp.  It works well. Never tried it in the 380, but it should work fine, as it is in the same ballpark as other fast powders like Bullseye.  By all means use a manual, or manufacturers recommended loads.  Start at starting loads, and slowly increase if needed till you get reliable function.

Just realized that the powder keg is labled as "Hercules" red dot. Same stuff right?

   Both cans of red dot i have are labled Hercules. Don't remember ever seeing one labled Alliant.

I used Hercules Red Dot in a BDA 380. 2.5 gr with a 95 gr LRN for years. Still have a few boxes loaded. Lost the Sweet little pistol a while back. Herc became Alliant a few years ago. That Keg should last you a lifetime.
Use load at your own risk. I used Red Dot in several low vel. lead rounds in different calibers. As said ask Alliant. Get the other keg ;)

Red Dots just a wee bit slower than Bullseye. Lyman has loading data for the .380 & Red Dot with 92 gr cast bullets.
