newbe down under
« on: October 03, 2011, 09:03:16 PM »
Hi guy’s great site with lots of good people, my mate owns a foundry over here in New Zealand (real handy) there are not many good ones left. After reading about your favorite pastime. I decided that I would add the ultimate addition to any ones collection. So behold my new addition, it took two days to cool down in the molding box. Yet to weigh it but we melted about 360 kgs of metal to get it this far. It has a steel barrel liner , the bore is 77mm will keep you posted  about its progress.

Are you planning to machine the exterior?

Welcome aboard, mudge! Does your cast barrel replicate an historic original?
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Mudge -

WELCOME to the board!

77mm bore 'eh?

Here that's beer-can caliber, except of course for those oil-can size Fosters.

Lookin' forward to extensive pictures of the machining of your new ultimate toy!

In your photo there is an impressive line up of mortars in the background, what is the deal on these?

Mudge, nice Artillery park,
O.k. a couple of things what style or type would you call your gun? With the banding it almost looks like a U.S. pattern. I am wondering we here in the States know about the firearms bans/confiscations that went on Down Under, how has it affected the ownership/use of Artillery? Are you allowed to shoot matches, or just blanks?

Here in New Zealand longer cannons are under the same rules as any other black powder   firearm,  i.e. A cat license( this is just your standard license). So far there has been no confiscations only stock and magazine configurations.  Now to the style or type to be honest i don’t know , your thoughts would be appreciated I’m still researching that one. Shooting them projectiles would on  private land .
What are your thoughts / experience on an ali cannon with a steel liner ?
