Rim fire scope, which one ???

I've been look'n over the rim fire scopes in the $200 range for a week or so, its gonna top off my .22 squirrel rifle so it needs to have a fine set of cross hairs & be able to be seen thru clearly at close range & no farther than 100 yds, and of course quality & durability are important.
 
 What say you ??

What have you been looking at in the $200.00 range? Have you looked at a Leupold 3-9 EFR? This seems to be the  rimfire  scope most are compared too. You might just decide to sell plasma, park cars at the county fair, or sell the spare tire off the pick-up so you can up the ante. Then again, the squirrels won't care if you use a blisterpak scope from Wal-Mart. What do you want?

 I've looked at the Luepold & a nikon rim fire scopes, The luepold (think'n) 2x7x33 was $400 ,Nikon was $220.
 
 Been read'n a lot about teh sightron, if I could get my hands on one to give it a propper look'n over would be nice.
 
 I dont care what the squirrels think, I've wasted enuff cash on POS wallyworld Tascos & BSA's, considering the time wasted, ammo cost, plus gas burnt returning a junk scope only to find out they dont refund but will offer another junk scope trade you actually save money by buy'n the $200 scope, because it stays sighted in & good to go when ya need it to be.

I believe Midsouth Shooters Supply sells the Leupold 2-7 Rimfire scope for a wee bit more than your $200 price. That's the one I recommend. I imagine that Camera Land will have a good price on it as well. Check with both as they are GBO Sponsors.

 Can't go wrong with the smaller Leupolds. I recently got a 3-9x33 EFR for $300 delivered but it's rare to find them that low.
 
 This Weaver is a really good scope for .22 even though it's made for shotguns. Parallax is set at 50 yds which is about right for general small game hunting. It's been a darling of the rimfire boards since Natchez has had their on and off sales on them for $99 (it's a discontinued model, original MSRP was $246). Japanese made, very clear and bright. Feels very solid. Super deal if you're wanting a small fixed 4x.

This reply is probably redundant but why restrict yourself to rim fire Scopes when the Tip Off mounts are avalible? I have one of the older sets by Weaver that did create slight indentations in the tube but I also have two more sets of the Quad Locks by the same Company that I like.

Edit, One belated realization on the Tip-off's that I am familure with is that they are only good to 36mm on the objective lens for clearance purposes. I dont know if they make a taller ring or not.

I prefer smaller scopes and have a 1.5-5 on my favorite .22 and a Leupold 4x rimfire version on another. I think I would prefer one of the many good 2-7 shotgun scopes available over the 4x rimfire. You are probably aware that shotgun scopes are usually adjusted to be parallax free at shorter distances than those intended for centerfire rifles. A 2-7 Leupold Rimfire version for $400.00 sounds really high.

 Most of the scopes I've had a .22s over the years were overkill (to much scope for a .22), at close range it was so blury accurate shots were impossible, I figured a "rim fire scope" would be the answer to that problem...what I'm hope'n anyway.
 
 Victor3, a scout is exactly what I'm gonna put it on, also have 2 other CZs that need quality glass later on as well.
 
Thanx for the input gents, I'm read'n every word & look'n up what ya'll suggest, already used the search feature & a lot of the post that came up were somewhat old so I figured it mite be a good idea to ask to get some info on something that had been manufactured recently.

 Victor3, a scout is exactly what I'm gonna put it on....

 In that case, if you want to retain the iron sights, another plus for the Weaver 4x is that it's one of few scopes (of those having an objective bell) that's short enough to be mounted low on a Scout, behind the rear sight...
 

 
 Most others are longer and/or have a larger bell, requiring higher rings to clear the sight. The Scout has a drop to the comb to line up on the stock sights; not too good with a high scope if you want a solid cheek weld. Eye relief, which can be an issue with a short LOP rifle like the Scout, is also no problem.
 
 Guess I'm sounding like a Weaver salesman, but I've found this particular scope to be an ideal fit for this rifle. Now I just need to find a holster for it.

The above suggestions are all good, here is another. Why don't you look at a Mueller APV? 4.5X to 14X, Parallax adjustable down to 15 yards, fair optics, under 150 bucks and Mueller is a site sponsor to boot. I own 4 of them; a couple on rim fires, one on a Savage model 40 22 Hornet and one on a 7mm-08 bolt. Not a problem with any of them. I can highly recommend them for a low priced scope. Do some research on Rimfire Central and you will find they like them just fine for their rimfire rifles.

I got a Leupold rimfire 4x and love it. I had a 3x9 EEFR on the same rifle and sold the 3x9.  I ordered my 4x from the Leupold custom shop with their turkey plex reticle.
