Understand from the Marlin website that their already slicked-up Comboy Competition lever action will also come in .45LC in 2003. From what I hear about the current .38 Sp version it should be one sweet rifle. I'd better start saving my pennies as I'm betting it gonna take a lot of them.

Should be a nice rifle. I Flat love the 45 Caliber. although I dont think anything could be any smother than my Marlin Cowboy 45. YE HAAAA

I think you mean 1894, right? Is it Marlin that makes the 22 called 1897? That would be slick if they did it in 45 but it seems a lot of guys are really disappointed with the Comp model. I am hearing they have a lot of feeding problems, some will chamber 357s and some feel they still need an action job even after paying extra from the factory. That part I can see as the factory, any factory, isn't going to take the time a known gunsmith will. That's why they are a known gunsmith, right?

Yep, the Marlin 1894, in .45LC is supposed to be offered in a Cowboy Competition. Liked your point about when known gunsmiths are known--their quailty of work. Have a post coming up on buying long guns over the internet--would appreciate your thoughts

I've had a .45 "cowboy comp." Marlin for over four years. I took my new 1894 CB to the local "known" gunsmith and had the barrel cut to 20" and crowned with a wide shallow bevel. He did an action job to make it feed flawlessly and smooth as silk. He polished the chamber and smoothed up the sharp corners of the chamber mouth. Installed a wide post front sight like the ones you see on "combat" 1911's and the Marlin fold-down carbine rear sight. The notch on the rear sight was widened slightly to give a sight picture with lots of light to the sides of the front post. This work cost me $200.00 and the only thing I am missing is the CCH finish that comes on the factory "cowboy comp". I have not had a "marlin jam" with this rifle.... ever! This rifle prefers a 250 gr. RNFP at about 900 fps. Since, as was already noted in this thread, the factory gun still needs an action job, I think you will be better off to have a standard 1894 CB worked over by a gunsmith who has experience slicking up Marlins for CAS.
