mossberg vs. remington vs. hastings for 870 wingmaster
« on: January 06, 2004, 11:32:19 AM »
I'm referring to rifled slug barrels.  I'm going boar hunting in the spring and the guide informed me that the best weapon in his opinion was a slug gun.  Whether or not you agree with this, I was wondering if anyone had an opinion as to the accuracy or quality of these rifled slug barrels.  Aesthetics is not important, price is something of a concern, just for the sake of being able to buy" more stuff".

Thanks in advance.

Parker.

Remington then Hastings in my opinion.  I only rate them this way because I like the finish a little better on the Remingtons.

Parker,
I personally shoot a Hastings barrel on my 870, mostly because I wanted a ported barrel to help with recoil reduction and muzzle jump and Hastings was the only one I could find.  I know of many people who use both the Remington and Mossberg barrels and they are both accurate also.  The finish on the Remingtons does seem to be a liitle better though.
When you do decide on a barrel you will have to shoot many different brands of sabots to see which your setup likes the best.  I ended up going with the Lightfield Hybrid Sabots with my Hastings barrel.  It will shoot clover leafs at 50 yards using a 30mm BSA red dot.
