I can say, thanks to a wonderful old machinist, my machining is coming along great, though my welding leaves something to be desired. I think my next project will be a carronade as I can weld a straight line fairly good, so a slot in the bottom of the barrel to add a block and those low slung trunnions will be a lot easier for me.

A carronade with trunnions is a gunade. Like these.

A carronade has a lug on the bottom with a hole in it that accepts a pin that secures it to a carriage. Look at the pictures in this post.

This site http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/cannon_photos.shtml shows me a lot, how the slider carriage works, how the barrel is attached even down to the elevation screw. I will be referencing this page a lot.

IvarForkbeard,
It sounds like you're planning to make what we here in the U.S. would call a true carronade. Instead of trunnions that are integrally cast with the barrel, the carronade has an under barrel loop/lug that holds an iron pivot pin, and the ends of the pin are held to the wood slide by capsuares. Your project sounds interesting; good luck. Here are some drawings provided to the board by "cannonmn", that you may find useful.

Thanks for all the diagrams, they will surely come in handy. Thought I would document this one from start to finish, so here goes.

First pass, truing the end

Starting to take down the breach area.

Oh yeah, my friend's 1934 Lima lathe.

Starting to drill.

Surface prep for steady rest and boring.

And starting to bore. As of end of the day, bore is at 1.6 inches, a bit more to go for golf ball dimension of 1.728-1.730. Powder chamber is 1"x1 1/4".

DRAT DRAT DRAT! I was going to test fire it this weekend but guess who managed to walk out of their friends shop WITHOUT drilling the vent! DRAT! DID make the test bed for it.....

YEAH! Made it back to the shop and got the vent drilled smoke and fire this weekend!

IvarForkbeard , It looks very nice all around . I can feel your pain as I have gone to Seacoasts more than once forgetting something like that .

I drove there two days ago and nearly forgot my print ...... Duh .

I would go easy loading that chamber right off . Golfball bore, that 1"x1.250" chamber will produce some big recoil if loaded up. A fox ball would be murder .

Day 2 of the display base build, that bottom piece is the 8/4 oak, mortised so I could use a single piece. The part under the carronade itself that slides, is 3/4 walnut. First coat of tong oil completed on both

With the decline in the education system experienced in the last several decades, I doubt that many under-30's have any understanding of 1984 references.

Outside of replacing the aluminum wheels with brass when I get some more brass round stock, I think this is done.

It is on a firing deck that limits it to a 45 degree of movement

Slider is American black walnut, the pivoting base oak, and the shooting base multiple woods.

Aluminum wheels will be replaces with brass.

I wonder how many generations will have to pass before a far more advanced socialist president comes along, and decides that it would be desirable for all Americans to have a microchip implanted in their bodies; and the young will rejoice at this great technological leap forward, thinking how easy and accurate taking the census will then be.
