Savage 25
« on: May 08, 2011, 08:23:22 PM »
I am looking at the Savage 25, the lightweight in 223 for my wife. She likes bolt actions and my Remington 700 223 is a little too big and heavy for her. Anyone get to wring one out yet?

I have the model 25 "classic" which is the sporter weight barrel with a walnut stock.   I absolutely love the rifle.  I purchased it as a dual purpose rifle.  My deer rifle is in .270 and is also a savage with the accutrigger and same style stock.  I set up this .223 with the same scope to be somewhat of a training range rifle and provide more consistancy to my shooting.  Also, as a carry/walking type varminter it is great.

As far as accuracy goes, it will shoot every factory round I have tried at under 1" with the best being fiocchi 40grain vmax.  It has shot these into 1/2"  for 3shots at 150yds.    It is very consistant at 1/2 to 3/4 moa with most any handload including 50grain nosler BT's and vmaxs.    The little rifle will pretty much hang in there with my friends $2000 custom remington 700 prairie dog rifle.   Gotta love it!

I don't think you could go wrong.

Yep - I agree.

I was coon-fingering one, at the Kittery Trading Post last Spring, and at only about $500, IMO it's a bargain.

I only have two gripes with them:

I don't care for the detachable magazine..................................

The action's not quite long enough to take the .250 Savage. ;)   :D

I'm a little late, but thanks for the replies. I have been looking like I am working lately and now have come up for air!
