Da 30 pound coon
« on: October 17, 2011, 06:41:31 PM »
Well I managed to pinch 10 coon last night. Not a truck load but I got a couple surprises catching some of them where it looked iffy. Anyway I had a couple of them coon every one always talks about. Yep them big 30 pounders. Of course I looked at the first one thought he might go 30??? Scaled out at 26.6 :-( No 30 pounder. So I pick up another one he got to be one of them 30 pounders for sure ?? Scales out at 26.15 :-( No 30 pounder?? So now I'm  back in the zone I know what a 30 pounder got to look like.  So I grab another big guy got to be a 30 pounder, this one hurts to say 29.15 just can't be a 30 pounder. So I look at the last of the four biggest coon. Got to be a 30 pounder?? Scales out at 29.12 not a 30 pounder :-(
Now I've caught 30 pounders and a couple between 30-35. But I have to figure that when most people tell you they got a 30 pound coon or bigger. Unless they have put it on the scale and took the BIG like a fish story out of the mix. It's probably a 25 or so pound coon.
But when I tell people in person about the 10 coon I caught today. I think there was at least five 30 pounders in there.
My truck keeps breaking I won't be out long either, Tore a brake line today had to come home get the car finish checking traps. The wifes car can actually haul a 30 pound coon LOL

Ok I had my son with today so he took some pictures. I take a few when I'm by myself but just don't take the time to take as many as I should.
Of course this first picture is of me with a 40 pounder caught in a DP. It sure was heavy good thing it was only 5 yards from the truck. I had to carry all 28.12 real pounds of him to the truck. Honestly I had to grunt to hold him like that while the boy snapped the pic. Age has made me a whooose, the coon has a nice tail.

Next pic was the first coon of the morning he's a pretty average coon.

Lee you wanted to know how I was catching them. First two pic's were in DPs. Next one is a trail set pic speaks for it's self, some goofy round thing I got somewhere.

Been setting a few trails with 1 1/2 DJs and I've caught a couple that way. I think this pic is another of what people like to see though them DPs working.

I had only 8 coon today and two skunks. The boy pointed out - No possum???? that might have been a first? Did have something take a coon from a 1 1/2 DJ and it wan't two legged. I'm guessing Chupakabra cause a coon is a beast to fight even holding a 1 1/2 on one hand.
Oh and today the speedometer in the truck quit working, always something with beaters.
