New to Contenders. Got an old one in 30-30 and have questions.
« on: September 26, 2011, 01:11:36 AM »
I recently picked uo an old Contender, serial # 210## with a 10" octogon 30-30 barrel, and an old Bushnell Magnum Phantom scope. I have since then put a rear sight on it and shot about 15 shots through it. I like it so far.
 Questions I have are:
When in lock-up, there is a slight amout of wiggle between frame and barrel, but I can not see daylight, and can close a piece of paper up in it and not be able to pull it out. Is this normal? Hinge pin and hole are not stretched or anything, but I can get the pin out (when action is open), with ease.
Will shooting 30-30 in the gun alot wear it out?
I plan on getting a 10" or shorter octagon 22lr barrel with open sights. Are they hard to find?
My forend looks to be walnut, and the grip is black synth. I see some pics have a wood/rubber grip. Can these be found still?

Yes this is normal some barrels will lock up tighter than others but your sounds not to be excessive.

As long as they are not super hot reloads no.

Not really they can be found from time to time here in the classifieds or on Gunbroker.com
