How bout them Coon Cuffs?
« on: January 09, 2004, 04:50:19 AM »
Anyone use these traps? I bought one last year and have had it in some good locations this year. All I have caught is one possum in it. Maybe I should have just bought 2or 3 #1 1/2 coilsprings. For 15$ I was hoping to catch a coon or two in it. For those who use them successfully, what is your setup? Bait, Location, etc.?

Thanks,

Zach,I have used and sold the Coon Cuffs since they first came out.
I will carry no other dog resistant coon trap.
Coon cuffs have allowed me to take coon in spots I wouldnt set a foothold, because of dogs.
I use Blackies fatal attraction or fur king for bait.Sets are placed along trails and in other areas the coon are frequenting.
Put something down there that the coon want and the cuffs will get them.

Tom, have you tried the Griz Getrz??  If so, what makes the Cuff a better coon catcher than the Grizz?
Thanks

Ad,cuffs are about $4.00 a piece cheaper. My friend Mike Tucker and I have set up cuffs(mine)and getrz(his) side by side.Other than his being knocked over one night, and me catching that coon.Catch ratios were no differant. The other reason is when customers want coon cuffs I always have them, they are avaiable--not so with the gris geterz--why advertise a product if it is'nt available.
I am very happy with coon cuffs and will continue to use and sell them.

Good reply, Tom.  With all the "press" that the getrz get, it's nice to know that there are other dog proof traps that work just as well.  Especially for a cheaper price!  Never caught anything in either of them, but it looks as if it'd be more difficult to release a live critter from a Cuff as opposed to a Getrz.

Ad,if you want to release something from a cuff, just push the door down with a rerod stake--makes things quick and easy.
