non resident deer hunting
« on: May 19, 2010, 07:27:25 AM »
I contacted the DNR today and they told me that the new and current information for deer hunting in Kentucky would be ready after July 4. I was wanting to gun hunt either this year or next year . I live in west central Indiana. I am not looking to kill a 200 inch deer or anything. We are not allowed to use rifles here in Indiana and I have never tried to hunt deer with a rifle and wanted to try it out. I would like to also try and kill a couple does if possible. I had a guy at work that wanted to also do this which would make travel cheaper with being able to split the gas with someone. If anyone would be willing to help I would be most thankful. If it would make anyone feel more comfortable to talk about deer hunting with me via email if you would like I could give you my email address via PM.
Thanks for the help and look forward to hunting sometime in Kentucky.

I called the DNR the other day. The guy I talked to wasn't as pleasant as the guy I first talked to. I figured I would of got all the information that I asked for already since it was about a week ago and they are sending it 200 miles north.

I've been looking to do the same thing. I know a guy who has inlaws and outlaws there. He says it's awsum.  He sits in his stand in a light jacket in the morning, and down to his flannel by afternoon, and he sees deer. Western KY. is where he hunts.

Not sure how the herd is in Western KY right now but KY was hit by blue tongue about 3 years ago.  Central and Eastern part of the state was hit very hard.  I found 12 dead dear on a plot of 150 acres and didn't cover the whole acreage.  I'd make sure any reports of #'s seen are from the last 2 years.  You may be getting reports from some years back.

Kentucky is full of public hunting. Plenty of deer to be had for the most part. If you want email me phllpwest@bellsouth.net and ill shoot you some links to public hunting in Kentucky. Western, Kentucky may be more your style being you are from Indiana. Eastern, Ky is rugged hunting and the deer are more spead out.

Hey thanks KYBOY! I am from Wisconsin and  I am looking at western KY. Some say  it's loaded with hunters, some say not many.
