This caliber has loads that are all over the place. T/C will tell you to keep them in the Trapdoor (28,000 cup or below) range. The old books including the Hornady and other published loads I have seen are way above that. The newer Hornady books seem to be in that trapdoor range in their Contender section but their older books were much higher.
In my case, I use it at the range and for deer hunting. I load 36 grs. of IMR 4198 with a 300 gr bullet which is light by most folks standards. However it shoots good out to 100 yds and is plenty enough to do a deer in. I enjoy shooting the cannon (yes it kicks more that anything I have even at 36 grs.) and I figure why stress my hand and gun if a lighter accurate load will meet my goals.
