Massachusetts Permits
« on: September 25, 2011, 03:10:42 PM »
Looking at the very restrictive Massachusetts laws on permits for firing a cannon, I am wondering if there are any on this forum with a Mass Cannoneers permit. I will be in Mass over the week of Thanks Giving and would love to show off my cannon to my family.

In order to fire a cannon in Massachusetts you need a Certification of Competency.

Although this law was written to govern firing of cannons during patriotic celebrations and re-enactments I would be very careful about firing a cannon in Massachusetts under any circumstances.
If you are only talking about showing the cannon without firing it then I think you should should be okay without any permit.

I live in Massachusetts. If you want to discuss this further PM me.

Your best bet is to get with both the law enforcement and fire authorities in the area you will be, let them know what you want to do and find out directly from them just what you would need to do.
