I'm in Bass Pro Shop
« on: September 19, 2011, 03:46:22 PM »
A fellow walks up and ask for a scope because he's going to Alaska and the clerk tells him he needs at with least a 16 power but a 24 power would be better.  He also says the objective should be at least a 50mm.

I'm sure it was because that was the scope that clerk used when he went to Alaska.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

Go figure.  I love listening to those guys!  Last year, I was in a Gander Mountain and over heard a customer asking one of the clerks about which ammo he should use for his upcoming elk hunt.  He would be using a .308.  The clerk handed him a box of ammo loaded with 168gr SMK's!!!  He went on to say that he had used them on deer and that elk weren't much bigger so he shouldn't have a problem using them.  The customer took the box and headed for the door.  I was nice enough to intercept him and steer him in the right direction.  He ended up walking out with a box of loaded with 180gr Partitions.

I have been in a shop before when the "expert" behind the counter recommends a certain caliber over another to someone who is obviously new to shooting because of the ballistics at 400-500 yards.

It seems to me that there is a lack of proper training.
