I've been a 9mm guy for a long time and have grown to count on Glocks. I purchased 2 new glocks (model 17 and 26) for my kids to have/shoot/use for personal protection, and went out this past weekend to put some rounds through them. On a whim (and because I had $200 bucks burning a hole in my pocket) I decided to buy an "el cheapo" hi point with a couple extra clips. I had been very suspicious about them, because I had read all of the reviews (ugly, heavy, cheap, junk, don't work, etc.etc.etc), but then a friend bought a 9mm and let me shoot it. It shot really good, so I decided I would weigh in on this, but with a .45cal. I've just never gotten the bug to buy a .45, especially since I can draw the happy face (cliche') with the 9mm. The 9mm will do what I need it to do. Anyway, back to shooting...we used ball and hps from Remington, Winchester, and Federal, both in the glocks and the hipoint 45. To make a long story short, I had more jams and missfires in the glocks (which does happen until you break them in/find their favorite hp) than the hi point. In fact, I did not have 1 jam or misfire in 300 rounds (mixture of ball and hp and makers) with the hi-point. NOT ONE!!! AND, the thing is very accurate. To my pleasure, it shot the remington the best, which makes it even more cost effective.
Now, I'm not saying the hi-point will last the thousands of rounds my glocks will, but guess what? If I wear it out, I'll send it in for replacement. I will take this 45 camping, fishing, and on the outdoor trips where I don't need a concealed sidearm. It will be just fine.
So far, I like it. It's heavier, but just as ugly as my glocks....a solid family of relaible step-children.
