New to BH209

Hello everyone,
  I have finally decided to make the switch to BH209. I'm shooting a Knight Disc rifle that has been converted to Disc Extreme. It has the factory breech plug that came with the kit. If properly cleaned and maintained, will it be compatible with the BH209 for consistent burning and accuracy? If not, which breech plug would you recommend? I plan to use CCI 209M primers.


Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was shooting BH209 in my original Disc 50cal, I'm not sure which BP you have but mine had a recess in the face of the BP (powder side) and I never had any issues with ignition. IIRC the longer flame channels had ignition problems.
Just use the standard 209 shotshell primers.
You will need to keep an eye on the flame channel as BH209 will corrode it up to the point of failure. In my cleaning kit I kept a set of torch tip cleaners that I used to keep the flame channel cleaned out.
My knight liked 90grains by volume under most 250gn pills, YMMV.
The Barnes expanders were my preferred bullet for hunting.
In my experiences, BH209 will still cause some corrosion but no way remotely close to black powder and BP subs.
Great stuff, IMO much better than black.
I have since kicked the smoking habit, love the sweet smell of smokeless!

 I have used B209 in the 'Original' Knight Disc(orange discs), my partner used the 'Extreme' with red discs, & now I use an 'Elite' with the Lehigh 'conversion' breech plug(no disc) Things have worked great in these type rifles. The flame channel is kept clean & dry when loading & we used a CCIM primer. You should have no problem with B209 in your Knight.

Are you getting any blow back around the primer

 Lots of blowback around the primer with the orange discs, a good amount with the red discs. There is VERY little blowback with the Lehigh conversion, non-jacketed breech plug. Things are much cleaner.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna fill up 3 tubes each with 90, 100 and 110gr volume of BH209 and see which gives me the best accuracy using the Barnes Expanders and TMZ bullets.


I may also look into that Lehigh conversion, sounds like there's an added benefit to having it.

I switched to BH209 last year. and didn't get a chance to shoot a deer with it. I am shooting a 300 gn Barnes MZ over 100 gns of BH 209 and When I sighted in last year My last 2 shots were inside a 1" circle at 100 yds. Needless to say I was excited. I shot once this year out of a clean barrel and was 2" high at 100 dead on left and right. I killed a deer with it a couple of days ago and had a baseball size exit hole. I'm definitely sticking with it. Going to try and shoot another with it tomorrow afternoon.

Great accuracy and clean burning,shot a deer last week and could actually see the deer's reaction instead of a big cloud of smoke. I use 90gr.300gr.shockwave,harvester crush rib sabots,cci 209M with my traditions pursuit I get a .829" 3 shot group,I'm well satisfied & surprised.
