Called in my first coyote
« on: March 18, 2012, 09:08:29 AM »
I was out hunting saturday morning with my son. We sat still quite a while without calling because we occasionaly see them roam through there, but not that day. So I turned on my MP3player hooked up to a small portable speaker. I first played a howl, then hurt pup, then a coyote/pup mix, then a hurt rabbit. My son saw it first and we wern't looking in his direction but he came in on a full gate. Neither one of us got a shot off, came to within 35 yds.and took to cover right away. But it sure gave me a lot of encouragement as I finally know I'm doing something right and have hopes for the future.

It was 9am, so about an hour and a half. It was all pretty quick, saw him for only 3-4 seconds.

Just got a Foxpro Sptifire. Tried some of the calls that are potential food. Haven't tried any of the social calls yet.

Do you think it was the rabbit he was coming to? or the combination of calls?
Also, how much time between the different types of calls.?

My guess is that he was looking for who was incroaching on his territory, or a wounded pup. He was really on a run, that would not be likely of a hungry yote in my opinion.
