209 magnum primers???
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:39:03 PM »
When used with BH-209 in CVA Wolf:  How much hotter is this primer compared to cci basic 209?  How much will point of impact be affected?  How much more will breech plug get fouled?  So far I have only used traditional 209 primers but am considering switching after research.  My breech plug is allready quite dirty with hangfires after 5-6 shots and wonder about necessity of magnum primers in hunting situations where 2-3 shots from initially clean barrel should be maximum.  Thanks

the mags are no dirtier than the regular or even the low temp primers as far as carbon build up.

Follow this and you will be able to shoot all day long with the magnum primer.

By using the CCIM primer you will eliminate one potential source of your mis-fires. That's the only primer I use in my Knight.

I have been using standard win 209 primers and BH for my 06 optima and have shot (probably 20 rounds) in freezing rain and have left my muzzle loader loaded  after that shooting for weeks and have never had a hang or miss fire , so should I bump up to mag primers or stick with what works so far?

had some misfires with win209 in a wolf,  drilled out the breach plug and changed to 209A magnum primers and no more misfires with BH 209 .
