It's not that hard for a qualified gunsmith.

In simplest terms unscrew the old barrel, buy a .25 cal barrel barrel of the same diameter as your old barrel.  Have the barrel chambered for the 257 Wby and screwed onto your rifle.  Have the new barrel drilled and tapped for mounting a scope.  Bolt it in your old stock and go shooting.

Not sure if any bolt work would be needed for the new cartridge.

Cost for a barrel will vary considerably, depending if you pick up a used barrel or spring for a top of the line.

Gunsmiths vary by reputation, skills, experience, waiting time for having the work done, and costs.  You will need to decide if you will be happy with hunting accuracy or want a true tack-driver.

Im sure you will get some more answers from folks who have had work done or actually do the work themselves.  They will have more current costs than I have.

Machine work, chambering and threading, on new barrel would be around $150.00 in my neck of the woods. Barrel prices differ and in my experience run about 3 bills for a quality stainless.  Action is already drilled and tapped for scope mounts and the magnum bolt face will work for either cartridge. A cheaper route would be to buy a new take-off barrel from a 700 in 25 cal(25-06,257 Roberts, etc) and have it rechambered and fitted to your action. Just my .02 worth and YMMV.

What's your intended purpose for the gun and what's your budget?  On a 700 the sky's the limit...
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
