Spotted this outstanding example of a bronze English 32 Pounder at the museum.

I just remembered.

I wasn't at the museum.

I was at my house.

That's one of my wooden guns.

Turned out very cool!

Barrel 36" long.

This will be going on my website pretty quickly for $1100. I am now showing my artwork at a local art gallery. I will be moving it in there this weekend.
I want everyone to understand that the carriages for my wooden guns could never be used for a real barrel without serious modification. My wooden guns are just an illusion and the carriages look real but would never withstand firing.
Carriages I build for firing guns are built extremely strong and able to take serious recoil.

That is as aged as it's going to get. I used some spalted wood in the front transom and the leveling platform. I stained it dark and rubbed linseed oil into the dried stain. There is no laquer. All hardware was painted flat black.
After I finished the woodwork, I just couldn't make myself beat it up with chains, rocks, hammers, drag it behind my truck, throw it off a cliff, or any other suggestion I received.
I did only sand it once instead of my usual 5 times.

The stain (instead of paint) gave it away.

No need to age the carriage, a cannon with that patina would have to be mounted on a repro carriage, as the original would have rotted away

faux painting the bronze.
First I take a finished barrel.

I paint it with at least three coats of a bronze/brown paint. Paint it till you cannot see any wood grain.

Next, my lovely partner comes in and begins "patting" a greenish color on. She puts some on, then rubbs some off exposing the bronze color. She repeats this process many times till she is satisfied with the look.
All the while I stand over her shoulder giving helpful hints which I sure she appreciates.
