I'll probably get flamed for this but I would suggest you try a Centerpoint 2-7x32 scope. Walmart has them for $68. I really like them, they have gotten good reviews, and they don't break the bank.

I thought you would see more comments on this thread!

Without Googling I seem to recall a slew of options but I too am interested in what everyone uses for deer and in what states (conditions).

Here in illinois we can be shooting in close quarters or even up to 150+ yards depending on terrain. Where I am hunting most shots at good deer can be in that extreme distance and want the best scope I can afford (on sale/discount)!

Right now I am looking at a Nikon ProStaff 3x9 40mm.  However I am open to suggestions!

I seem to have a difficult time finding the target (deer) in the scope when hunting and am open to suggestions. I have around $200+ to spend but got a deal on the Nikon for $99...

Welcome Zettler! It hasn't got a lot of replies most likely because it's been asked many times before, here's the last discussion on page two.  ;)

LOL.Thanks I found that thread immediately AFTER I posted above. Should have figured that....

However, after reading all the comments it seems I might be in for issues on my 20. More in a separate post....

I just installed a Buckmaster 3-9-40 with out any modifying to the hammer at all on my ultra slug 12ga . I used the Leupold PRW all steel med mounts , they fit nice and just enough room so the hammer will clear . Plus them being all steel they shoud hold up to any recoil of a shot gun .
Slackdaddy , were did you get that cheek piece on you 20ga USH?

My two cents worth?.....
If you primarily hunt "inside" the woods, I would recommend a good quality 4X.
If you hunt the edge where you may shoot over 100 yards, I would recommend something up to 7X.
A 40mm front lens works well for light gathering for clarity.
I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.
