triple deuce owners sound off!
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:12:02 PM »
Well Purchased my first handgun on sunday, a older contender with a 10" .222 barrel. Bought a 2-7 scope for it also. This is my first hunting handgun and plan on trying some predator hunting this winter with it and for sure wackin some chucks in the spring. Who else has the .222 contender? how do you like it? I plan on reloading for it this winter probably so just bought the only ammo the shop had for it (win psp). what kind of accuracy should i expect from this rig?

Have fun with her, the .222 is a beutiful little round, I have punch some TINY holes in paper with that cartridge before with a 14" T/C contender bbl. No matter how well I did on my part, I always felt she was just sitting there waitn on me to do better.

I have some great loads that I worked up in the 14" barrel, Im sure they would do about the same in the 10" (may have to modify a lil, but Id be happy to share recipes if youd be interested, let me know)

The Triple Deuce does far better in the longer 14" barrels.   If it were me, I'd sell the 10" and go longer.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

+1  .........I much prefer the Bee, Hornet, Fireball or Jet in 10" tube while the Triple Duce and/or223 really shine in the longer barrel.  There are a lot of the old 222 octagon barrels still around and there are loads that help tame the muzzle blast, but, I'd still go with Ladobe's suggestion, especially since it's your first.  And....BTW, Welcome to the world of TC! ;D 8)

I have a 10" octagon 222 Rem that I bought second hand used two years ago.  I always wanted one in 222 and the octagon barrel came along at a reasonable price with 150 pieces of brass before I could find a 'super 14'.  I use Alliant 2400 and bluedot reduced loads behind a 40 or 50 grain nosler BTs.  It is easy to reload and fun to shoot at the range with the iron sites, but not my even close to my most accurate barrel(s).  I've never used it for hunting.
