Tamer Stock - Looking for Ideas
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:19:20 PM »
Hi All,

Just picked up a new take off Tamer stock set off a 20 ga.  I wanted this shorter stock to put on my 45 ACP so my 14 year old daughter can shoot it.  I put a slip on Limbsaver on it and it is just long enough for me to shoot.   Anyway what I want to do is make a cartridge holder for 45 ACP that fits in the relief on the tamer stock.  I have had several ideas but none I want to follow through on.  Looking for ideas on how to make a cartridge holder that will be secure and not be proud to the stock.  Although I was born in Kentucky, I have ruled out duct taping a 50 rd box of 45 ACP into the recess. ;D   Also, anybody who wants the 20 gage shell holder off this stock send me a PM and I will mail it to you.

There ar other makes I'm sure, but what if you made a leather piece like this and then just epoxied it into the recess.  I don't have that style stock, so not sure what length would work.  With stubby .45 acp, however, I think you could put a row at the top and a row at the bottom possibly.  ;)

How about that Kydex (sp?) that knifemakers are using for sheaths, BB? Its a plastic that can be, IIRC, soaked in hot water and shaped pretty easily. I think I remember seeing some pop riveted together.

BB,
How about this?
It's the plastic 10 round holders from Federal rifle ammo. (30-06 family) with the bottom half trimmed away.  It could be attached with a velcro backing or screwed directly to the stock.

We have a winner! ;D   The entire gun is getting a custom refinish (few coats of rustoleum matte black textured spray paint) and I think the plastic shell holder should take paint just fine.  Thanks RJ and all who responded.  Now I got to go root throught the trash cans at the gun club for an MT box of Federal '06. ;)

BB, go to your local auto body shop (or maybe one of our guys will give you a specific rattlecan product here) and ask about the primer they use for the plastic car parts. It makes the paint stick to the plastic better.

You can get that primer for plastic at autozone, pepboys and I think Napa.

I got lucky, found a Remington BLACK plastic sheller holder, 30-30 green box, so no paint needed and it holds the 45 ACP cartridges very snuggly.
