Thunder Mug Breech Loader

Well, as it is hunting season here and my test range is also my hunting ground, no test fire yet, and I forgot the powder can, but here are some photos of my latest. Interchangable breech in .50 cal. Down ad dirty swivel mount is for testing only, will be making something much better soon.

Short chamber installed, 3.25 inches long

Long,4.25" breech installed.
Going to do some volume calculations and work up to a max load, will post when I have video....

This is good Ivar, it reminds me of some of the breech loading experimental cannon models of our CW era. I'll also be watching to see how accurate the barrel is going to be.
I don't know if this would pass DD's "in the spirit of the original" rule for the GBO Miniature Cannon Shoot, but this looks like it might just fit the bill for the small-bore competition.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

SHOULD be fairly accurate, drilled to 31/64th then reemed to 1/2 inch, full inches.

It might replicate a number of features of old guns, unless you could clearly show that it replicate a specific gun, it wouldn't meet spirit of the original I wouldn't think.

Yeah, I suppose (because of the screw) that you're right, but you have to admit that just from a practical standpoint, Ivar's barrel could be ideal for the competition. I was daydreaming about having 16 seperate chambers, all loaded with meticulous care before going to the range (4 practice shots & 12 for targets) coupled with that long smoothly reamed .50 bore (talk about a dedicated purpose).

Can I assume that there is a matching taper on the end of the barrel to match the taper on the end ofthe powder chamber?

The powder chamber is tapered to 118 degrees, same as the drill but I used to drill the 1" recess.

IvarForkbeard,  Nice job on the breechloader.  The screw handle on the back is reminiscent of an early Armstrong breechloader.

If the breech closure cheeks extended forward to the trunions...  or if it had a second set of "trunions"...  This would resemble an early breechloader with the pivoting breech assembly.  I forget what these were called.
